GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS MISS P. SCHOFIELD AND R. WESTON SUCCESSFUL. ("Times-Age” Special.) The finals for the 1940 golf championship were decided during the weekend. The links were in good order, and keen contests resulted. For the ladies’ honours Miss P. Schofield, the 15-year-old girl, who has been playing good, consistent golf during the whole of the season, defeated Mrs E. L. Nitz two and one over the 27-hole course, and thus wins the Nitz Cup. The final for the men's championship was even more closely contested going to the last hole of the 36-hole course before it was decided, R. Weston defeating M. Paku one up, and taking the Cameron Cup. In the handicap class Mrs J. Bannister won the McGregor Cup, and N. Foreman (holder) won the Bannister Cup for the second year. On the next playing day the stableford competition will be continued for trophies generously donated by Mr and Mrs N. Foreman.

TABLE TENNIS SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT. A table tennis tournament was held in the local hall on Saturday last and proved very enjoyable and successful. The proceeds will go towards the hall fund. Miss P. Schofield won the ladies’ singles and Mrs Schofield and M. Schofield won the mixed doubles. M. Schofield (Hinakura) won the men’.' singles. Supper was served by the ladies and dancing was indulged in until midnight, all those present thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Annual Golf Ball. All arrangements ae well in hand for the annual golf ball which will be held on September 7. A feature of the gathering will be the savoury supper, which will be quite new to the district and promises to be successful. Ine committee has fixed the price of '■‘Admission at 3s and the proceeds will be donated to patriotic purposes. Every effort is being made to assure an enjoyable time being spent by pations.
