GREYTOWN

OBITUARY MRS H. HAWKE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death has occurred in Auckland of Mrs H. Hawke after a short illness. Mrs Hawke was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs S. Haigh. very old residents of Greytown, and had reached the age of 75 years. Coming to Greytown with her parents in 1873 she associated herself with any movement to help the town, and particularly public entertainments. She was for many years associated with her brother, the late Mr Herbert Haigh. in producing dramatic plays. She took a very active part in the work of the Methodist Church, being a valued member of the choir, and leader of the Band of Hope. Leaving Greytown about 20 years ago to live in the Auckland district she was able to renew old friendships by visits to Greytown, the last occasion being at the time of the Centennial Celebrations. She will be greatly missed by a host of friends in the Greytown district who will mourn the loss of a close friend. She is survived by her husband, one daughters and four grandchildren. Messrs E. J. and A. M. Haigh (Greytown), and G. and C. (Wellington), T. (Pukio), J. (Nelson), and E. Haigh (Whakatane) are brothers.

Personal Items.

The many friends of Mr H. T. Rees will regret to learn that he had to enter the Greytown Hospital yesterday for treatment.

Mrs H. C. Trotman arrived back in Grey town .yesterday after a visit to her daughter in Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs O. Peterson have returned from a visit to Wellington. Miss King, who has been visiting Mrs T. J. O’Brien, has returned to Hastings. Mesdames G. S. Maloney, McCarty, McKenna and Woodley and Misses Cadwallader and Svenson returned to Greytown yesterday after taking part in the hockey tournament at Auckland. Mr G. S. Maloney also returned from Auckland yesterday. Boy Scouts. The Greytown Boy Scouts received a good response to their canvas for books and magazines and twelve cases of books were collected.
