LANDING IN SAMOA

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) APIA, August 31. The twenty-sixth anniversary of the landing of New Zealand troops in Samoa was observed in Apia on Thursday. A large gathering of Europeans and Samoans assembled at the Administration buildings where the flag was hoisted by Naea, of the local police force, who was a member of the occupying force. The Acting-Administrator, Mr A. C. Turnbull, delivered an impressive patriotic address. Faalavaau, a Samoan member of the Legislative Council, spoke for the Samoan people. The Samoan defence force, under Colonel W. Carrol Harley, paraded along with the police force under Chief Inspector Braisby. The Administrator inspected the forces and took the salute.
