MARTINBOROUGH
GARDEN CIRCLE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The August meetting of the Garden Circle was held at Mrs D. C. Pryor’s residence on Thursday. The competitions were won as follow: —Naming flowers: Mrs J. D. Rowlands; best bloom, Mrs Boyd 1, Mrs Williamson 2, Mrs Watson 3; best shrub, Mrs Boyd 1. At a future meeting a talk on the classing and arranging of bulbs for show will be given by Mrs John Martin.
HOME DEFENCE GOOD ATTENDANCE AT PARADE. • Over 100 persons attended the parade of the Home Guard last evening, and instruction was given in Lewis gun, rifle and musketry work by two officers from the Permanent staff. Soldiers’ Parcels. The local Patriotic Committee has received word that the Martinborough Borough and Featherston County allotment of parcels for soldiers is 85. A donation of £5 has already been received towards this object and a guarantee of £4 has been-made by. Pirinoa sub-branch. Hinakura residents have promised £4. This makes half of the total sum required.
