FEATHERSTON

CLOSE SEASON FOR BIRDS A STRONG PROTEST. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance of members representing Carterton, Greytown and Featherston at the meeting of the committee cf the Acclimatisation Society held in Featherston. Mr N. C. C. Shepherd was in the chair. A strong protest was made against a close season for birds in 1941. It was stated that it had been noticed that after a close season birds were less gun shy and consequently, many more were shot.

The oft'er of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society to provide young trout for the Wharekauhau and Wharepapa rivers was accepted, and the committee undertook to carry out the work in connection therewith. The committee decided to request the Wellington Acclimatisation Society to liberate more Mallard ducks in South Wairarapa. Personal Items. ■ Mr and Mrs F. Hayes are spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss Wharton is visiting Nelson.
