IHURAUA

SCHOOL SOCIAL ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The pupils of the Ihuraua School celebrated the end of the term by inviting their parents and friends to a social in the school room. Master Warren Crawford was announcer and Mrs C. L. Gregory played the accompaniments. The singing of “God Defend New Zealand,” was followed by company songs, part songs, recitations, folk dances and a patriotic march, all rendered in a manner reflecting great credit on both the teacher and the pupils. Those present then sang “There’ll Always be an England,” and “God Save the King.” Mr C. R. Judd, chairman of the school committee, congratulated the school children on their splendid effort, and presented each performer with a bag of lollies. Master Donald Pickering presented Mrs Gregory with a tastefully arranged posy of daphne and spring flowers. Afternoon tea provided by the mothers of the children was much appreciated.

Two competitions, the prizes for which were donated by Mrs Gregory and Mrs W. Horne were won by Lawrence Heckler and Dulcie Dagg respectively. As a result of the party the children handed the sum of £4 3s to their teacher to be used for patriotic purposes. Social Club. Mr J. H. Macdonald presided over a good attendance at a meeting of the Ihuraua Social Club. It was decided to hold a dance early in September. There will be a “bring and buy” stall and cakes and sweets for sale. The prizes for the competititions will include a ham. The gross takings will be forwarded to Wellington for the soldiers' Christmas parcels fund. Personal. The friends of Mr E. H. Dagg who has been confined to his room for some weeks past, will be pleased to learn that he is considerably improved in'health.
