MILK DELIVERY ZONING
UNDER CONTROL OF VENDORS THEMSELVES. STATEMENT BY MR ROBERTSON. In a statement regarding milk delivery zoning in Masterton, Mr J. Robertson, M.P., points out that the zoning is entirely under the control of the local vendors themselves. “The position,” said Mr Robertson, “is that the necessity for conserving petrol, in view of the possible complete stoppage of supplies from outside from causes quite beyond the Government’s control, was put before the milk vendors, who were asked to cut down their petrol consumption. The method adopted was entirely a matter for themselves to decide upon. I personally commend the spirit in which the milk vendors met the situation and organised the supplies in such a way as to stop overlapping and economise in petrol and in other ways. Subsequent to the decision of the local vendors to zone their deliveries, the Government issued a regulation which protected them against pirating from outside sources, which might have occurred under the zoning scheme and been detrimental to the regular vendors who had, by adopting zoning, laid themselves open to possible competition of this kind.”
