MARTINBOROUGH

ENJOYABLE SOCIAL SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Last night the Town Hall was crowded when a social was held in honour of local soldiers now on leave. An excellent orchestra provided music for dancing, which was interspersed with tap-dancing by Miss June Lynch, humorous sketches by Mr Price and a song by Mrs E. R. Burch. At a suitable interval some thirty soldiers took the stage, and the Mayor (Mr C. W. F. Skill) read an eloquent address to the men, wishing them a speedy return, and pledging the people of the district to do their utmost to reestablish the soldiers in civil life on their return. A gift was then handed to each soldier, and hearty cheers given for them.

Captain Coutts, who is also on leave, returned thanks on behalf of the men.

Dancing was then resumed till an early hour this morning.

COLLIE CLUB GATHERING.

Members of the Martinborough Collie Club met last night to farewell two of their members who have enlisted.

Mr Thos. Bubb (president) on behalf of members and the committee, presented each of the departing guests with a propelling pencil, and with them a safe return.
