WAR FUNDS COUNCIL
BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING CURRENT PATRIOTIC EFFORT. USE OF ORGANISATION * SUGGESTED. 'By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The twenty-fifth annual meeting of the National War Funds Council was held yesterday. The meeting was opened by the Minister for Internal Affairs (Mr Parry). In the absence of Sir Charles Luke, through indisposition. Mr L. O. H. Tripp was made chairman. The statement of accounts disclosed f that the figure of expenditure over ’ income was lower than last year, being £2,132. The funds now stand at £87,394, which includes trusts of £14,888 which can only be expended in accordance with specified conditions. The executive was authorised to expend up to £3,000 for relief of unemployment. Matters affecting patriotic efforts generally were discussed and the opinion was expressed that the bodies set up under the 1939 regulations could with advantage utilise the organisation and staff of associations functioning under the War Funds Act of 1914, it being felt that the experience of these committees, secretaries and staffs, gained over a long period, would be of great assistance in dealing with the requests of men of the present war. Comment was made on the low administrative expenses, especially considering the varied activities of the council, and a vote of thanks was accorded to the secretary, Mr O. H. Dillner, for his services during the year.
