TRUST AFFAIRS
MONTHLY MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. FENCING OF CORNWALL STREET BLOCK. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last night. The chairman, Mr H. P. Hugo, presided. There were also present Messrs R. Page, J. Macfarlane Laing, E. G. Eton, A. Owen Jones, H. FI, Daniell and J. H. Handyside. Apologies for absence (owing to illness) were received from Messrs R. Krahagen and C. E. Grey. Accounts for £26 11s 4d (plus rates to fall due shortly) were passed. The No. 1 account was reported to be in credit, £1429; No. 2 account, £122, and No. 3 account £62, making a total credit balance at July 31 of £1613.
The headmasters of the Lansdowne and Central schools wrote thanking the trustees for grants allocated to the schools.
The Director of Housing Construction wrote forwarding particulars of a proposed boundary fence between their Cornwall Street block and the rural block owned by the Trust. The share of the cost would be £l4 10s. In the course of considerable discussion which followed, Mr Eton said he failed to understand the narrow view of trustees who were opposed to the erection of the fence and contended that they were splitting straws.
Messrs Daniell, Hugo and Laing urged that a long view be taken of the project. Mr Dniell stressed the value of planting the boundary of the property to enhance the beauty and future value of the estate.
It was decided to erect a fence by four votes to three, those voting against the motion being Messrs Jones, Page and Handyside.
