Mr A. Coleman. S.M., Wanganui, has been appointed chairman of the Government Railways Appeal Board. The Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington last night for Christchurch.

Messrs H. Holland. J. Bussell, B. Phipps (Wellington) were guests yesterday at the Hotel Midland, Masterton.

His Grace Archbishop O'Shea. D.D.. S.M.. will visit Masterton on Wednesday. September 4, and will be present at the Charity Ball to be held in the Municipal Hall, that night. The death occurred at Wellington yesterday at the age of 77 years of Mr Edwin Bold, land purchase officer 1 in the Public Works Department from 1906 till his retirement in 1929. For some years Mr Bold was organist and choirmaster at Congregational churches in Timaru and Wellington. For many years he was secretary of the Yorkshire Society of New Zealand and the Pacific Lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids.

Mr S. McNicol. New Zealand University and Wellington Rugby representative, has been appointed sole teacher at Moawhango School and will probably take up his appointment on September 2, the beginning of the third term. He was educated at Wanganui Technical College and this year has been university physical in-

structor and also area recreation officer for the Internal Affairs Department for the Wellington area. He visited Masterton on many occasions in connection with his duties. In 1938-39-40 he represented Wellington at Rugby and also New Zealand Universities and North Island universities. Moawhango is 11 miles inland from Taihape.
