LIEUT. S. H. DAWE

PRESENTATION FROM BOROUGH STAFF.

Lieutenant. S. FI. Dawe (Third Echelon N.Z.F.A.) was a visitor to Masterton yesterday, when ex-associate members of the Masterton Borough Council staff made him a presentation.

In handing Mr Dawe a wallet and pipe, Mr C. R. Mabson (Borough Engineer) eulogised the past services of his assistant-engineer, and trusted the wider range of administrative duty to be called forth in pursuit of what was now rightly designated an “engineering” war campaign, would be of enhanced value, above those already displayed by his late assistant, at the end of the war.

The Town Clerk (Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith), in a further tribute to Mr Dawe’s services during his two years’ association with the borough staff, spoke of the undying spirit of “comraderie” among veteran forces of the campaign of 1914-18, and trusted Mr Dawe would likewise experience, as the speaker had, the immense value of that comradeship in facing the rehabilitation period yet to come. After musical honours had been accorded him, Mr Dawe thanked ex-as-sociates of his who had already made him a presentation, some months ago, when his marriage took place, and now so generously added gifts he would likewise treasure.

Mr and Mrs Dawe left later by mail train for the Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay district.
