BOWLING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) The annual meeting of the Martinborough Bowling Club was held last night, Mr A. O. Pike presiding over a good attendance of members. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing season: —Patron. Mr J. Lamb; president. Mr W. J. Knell; vicepresidents, Messrs A. W. George and T. H. Smith; hon. secretary. Mr G. Williamson (re-elected); auditor, Mr J. Jolly: committee, Messrs A. C. Caseley. S. Boyd, J. Jolly, AV. J. McNally. A. O. Pike, J. Jenkins and J. A. Beveridge; delegates to the Bowling Centre, Messrs Knell, George and Williamson; selector, Mr S. Boyd; match committee, Messrs Beveridge, Caseley, Pike; night play, Messrs Knell and McNally; green superintendent, Mr A. Smith; bowls examiner. Mr Williamson. A discussion took place on the question of increasing the croquet contribution by £5, but it was finally decided that it remain as at present. Mr J. Lamb was appointed a life member, in recognition of lengthy and valued service to the club. It was decided that any member joining the forces for home or overseas service be retained as a fully paid-up member. The delegates to the Bowling Centre were instructed to vote that the rules of the Booth Cup be retained as at present, and not altered to a challenge trophy, as it was considered that the alteration would be unfair to the smaller clubs, and would be detrimental to the competitions. RED CROSS SOCIETY EXAMINATION RESULTS. A meeting of the executive of the Red Cross Society was held yesterday when Mr D. C. Pryor presided over a good attendance. It was decided to send letters of thanks to Mrs McLeod and Mr Eric Riddiford for their generous donations. Preliminary arrangements were made in connection with establishing an emergency hospital outfit for the. district. This will involve a large amount of work and material in dressings, bandages, etc., and a sub-commit-tee was appointed to complete the outfit. A report was received on the V.A.D. examinations in first aid held during the past week. It was decided to hold a Paddy's Market to assist the funds. The results of the First Aid examinations are as follow: —90 per cent and over, E. Alpe, Mrs Findlay, Mrs Johns, O. Madsen, H. McNally; preliminary, 90 per cent and over, J. Pike; 80 per cent and over, H. Martin, E. McLaren, Mrs J. Weber; 70 per cent and over, C. Ross. S. Ross, T. Killip, E. Caseley, S. Caseley. M. Harvey: 60 per cent and over, N. Prussing. P. Trounce. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held last night, there being present: Messrs W. J. McNally (chairman), K. Arthur (secretary), R. W. George. R. Laurence, G. P. Cotter, F. B. Wright and the headmaster (Mr D. C. Pryor). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. L. Griffiths and E. C. Sadd. The Education Board wrote signifying its approval of an extra teacher for the school, and stating that a heater would be installed in the woodwork classroom. A circular was received from the Education Board enclosing instructions for - saluting the flag and ceremonial in connection therewith; also notifying that Arbor Day would be celebrated on August 7. Accounts amounting to £l9 9s 9d were passed for payment. The headmaster reported as follows for the month: —Primary roll. 182; average attendance, 168.7; secondary. 43 and 37. The school football teams had done well at the tournament, reaching the final in the senior grade, and winning the junior and third grade competitions. The boys had collected bet ties, and from the proceeds the girls had purchased materials and were making garments for patriotic purposes. Thanks were expressed to those persons who had conveyed the pupils to the school sports, and the coach (Mr T. Hardie) was complimented on the success of his teams.

The visiting committee reported that general urgent repairs needed attention. Messrs George and Laurence were appointed visitors for the ensuing month.
