GIRL GUIDES VISIT OF COMMISSIONERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday the Eketahuna Brownie. Guide, and committee meetings were visited by the Division Commissioner, Mi's D. H. S. Riddiford, of Featherston, and the District Commissioner. Mrs McKenzie, of Masterton. In the morning the Commissioners visited the Brownies, who are being trained by Miss K. Herbert. Brown Owl. One new Brownie, Nancy Petersen, was enrolled. The following Brownies were presented with their second class badges: —Audrey Brown, Shirley Ives, Alma Ryan, Lois Bowering, Ngaire Davis, Audrey Johanson. Kathleen Ryan. Diana McAllister. Mrs Riddiford expressed her satisfaction with the progress made by the Brownie Pack as well as the Guide Company, under the leadership of Miss M. McAnulty, assisted by Nola Hancock. The Guides’ work, in decorating their "corners,” was especially approved. The enrolments of the Captain, as well as of the following Guides, were then taken: Phyllis Johanson. Niomi Farrow, Nancy Fordyce, June McAnulty. The Commissioners were entertained at lunch by the Misses Anderson at their home in Alfredton Road. Afternoon tea was served by the committee, just before the meeting. The following vice-presidents were present: Mrs W. Curry, Mrs H. Higginson, Miss M. Anderson. The members of the committee present were Mesdames D. Fraser (president), W. Waterreus, W. Olsen. R. Cooper, L. Ives, J. Tolley. B. Bowering, Misses A. Anderson and C. Wilson ‘(secretary). Mrs McKenzie, District Commissioner, presided at the meeting. Apologies were received from Mesdames O. Walton, H. Gray and R. Gallagher. Mrs Riddiford urged all to double their efforts in the interests of Guiding. and to secure more girls as members. Guides, as future citizens, were to be trained to stand up to whatever was in store for them. Mrs Fraser expressed her thanks to the Commissioners for visiting the Brownies, Guides and the committee. She was very pleased that they were well satisfied with the progress of the Brownies and Guides. Mrs McKenzie, who as District Commissioner was on her first visit to Eketahuna. expressed her thanks for the reception accorded her. Personal. A wedding of considerable interest was solemnised at St James’s Church, Konini, when Eileen Ruby, third daughter of Mr and Mrs T E. Stone, of Pahiatua, was married to Eric, second son of Mr and Mrs H. Hirst, of Konini. The officiating clergyman was the Rev K. F. Button. Minister Farewelled. The Rev A. A. Armstrong conducted a farewell service in St Andrew’s Church, Pongaroa, when a large congregation assembled to hear the minister’s final message. After the service the parishioners assembled in the church hall, when a social was held at which the opportunity was taken to present Mr Armstrong with a beautiful rose-tinted quilt. The presentation was made by Mr J. W. Murray (secretary of the board of managers), who spoke in terms of warmest appreciation of the good work carried out by the Moderator who had won the esteem and respect of the people of the district. The recipient suitably replied. After supper the gathering was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
