NEW SEASON’S HAIR STYLES

STARTLINGLY DIFFERENT. Every day Hollywood hairdressers come out with something new in the way of modern coiffures. It may be an old adaption with a couple of new features which makes the effect startlingly different, or a medieval coiffure heightened with modern ornaments. Whatever the case, the young girl—yes, and the matron too —has any amount of charming styles to choose from. Two of the cleverest exponents in coiffure art are Hollis Barnes and Helen Hunt, at present located at the Columbia Studio. Hollis Barnes is personal hair dresser to Barbara Stanwyck who has the monopoly of his exclusive services. Miss Stanwyck recently completed work on “Golden Boy” and Barnes designed and executed a special "Golden Girl” coiffure for her role in the film. It is a charming adaption of the high and low hairdress and is ideal xor die average business girl. The hair is parted in the middle and softly waved off each temple. A series of pin curls give a heightening effect on the top of the head and a small; simply turned underroll descends from the ear-tips to the nape of the neck. This coiffure is equally attractive for daytime or evening wear. Helen Hunt is head of the hairdressing department at the studios, and she is at present working out new ideas for Jean Arthur. Rosalind Russell and Joan Biondell, due to appear in “Arizona,” “His Girl Friday” and “The Incredible Mr Williams” respectively. The latest she created was for Joan Perry, appearing in Columbia’s new dramatic production, “Blind Alley.” Miss Hunt achieved a new note in this hairstyle by drawing the hair high on the head by means of contoui combing from the temples. Worn directly in the front and well down over the forehead is a large bang cluster. This is tied with a pastel velvet bow while the side and back hair is simply combed upward following the line of the head. This hairstyle is a trifle more elaborate than that designed lor Miss Stanwyck, and is ideal for the ballroom or more formal dinner parties.
