Alfred Lyddiard. aged 21. single, o' Titoki, was killed at Maungatapert this afternoon when he and a companion were mending the tyre of the ear in which he had been given a lift when returning home from Whangarei. He was struck by a passing motorist, Albert Julius Peterson, farmer, of Whatitiri. and so badly injured, including a fractured skull, that he died instantly A companion, who was the owner of the car. was also injured and taken to hospital suffering from concussion. Deceased had enlisted and was about to enter camp. He was a prominent cyclist and hockey player.
