SOLDIER KILLED
STRUCK BY MOTOR CAR. TRAGEDY AT MAUNGATOPERE. IBy Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI. August 3. Alfred Lyddiard. aged 21. single, o' Titoki, was killed at Maungatapert this afternoon when he and a companion were mending the tyre of the ear in which he had been given a lift when returning home from Whangarei. He was struck by a passing motorist, Albert Julius Peterson, farmer, of Whatitiri. and so badly injured, including a fractured skull, that he died instantly A companion, who was the owner of the car. was also injured and taken to hospital suffering from concussion. Deceased had enlisted and was about to enter camp. He was a prominent cyclist and hockey player.
