ONE DAMAGED AND SUNK. ENEMY BOMBERS SHOT DOWN. Two British trawlers reached port yesterday, Daventry reports, after having shot down a German bomber, which crashed into the sea. One member of the crew was picked up but he was dead. The loss of the trawler Cape Finisterre in an action with enemy aircraft is announced by the Admiralty. Four enemy planes attacked the trawler, which shot down the first one to attack. The trawler was damaged by the other three planes and subsequently sank. The Admiralty has announced that his Majesty’s trawler Cape Finisterre was lost on Friday, after an attack by four enemy aircraft, one of which was shot down. The others severely damaged the Cape Finisterre, which subsequently sank. Two British trawlers have arrived at a British port after shooting down a German bomber in the Channel. A Dornier unsuccessfully bombed and machine-gunned the trawlers, one of which brought down the raider and a speed-boat picked up a dead member of the German crew. The German High Command states: “During last night isolated air attacks were carried out against tank depots and anti-aircraft positions in England. Extensive fires were observed. Several armed merchantmen were bombed yesterday off the English east coast near Harwich and the Thames Estuary and also off the Hebrides, and three of a total tonnage of 16,000 were sunk. “Enemy planes which penetrated northern and western Germany last night destroyed houses and killed and injured civilians; they destroyed a farmhouse in Ehra, killing the farmer’s family of four. “A U-boat of long-distance range sank seven armed merchantmen of a tonnage of about 56,118, including three tankers which were convoyed.”
