SALVATION ARMY

VISITORS FROM WELLINGTON AT WEEKEND. SERIES OF SPECIAL SERVICES. During the coming weekend, Masterton is to be visited by Brigadier Florence Birks and Brigadier N. Smith, with merpbers of the staff and cadets from the Salvation Army Training College, Wellington. Brigadier Birks arrived recently from Australia to take up her appointment as’Principal of the Army Training College in Wellington. In conduct? ing a series of special services in Mas? terton, Brigadier Birks will be assisted by Brigadier Smith, who is Assistant Training Officer at the college and by the other visitors from that establish? meat. The special services will open on Saturday evening next with a grand programme by the cadets, featuring instrumental and vocal items and tableux. Assisting artists will be Miss Lora Dutton, pianist, and Mr Steve Mason, xylophonist. All services in the Salvation Army Hall on Sunday will be conducted by Brigadier Birks. On Sunday afternoon she is to lecture on “Social Silhouettes.” Mrs G. G. Tolhurst, will preside and it is hoped that social workers will be well represented as the lecture will be of special interest to them. Brigadier Birks is an able and informative speaker and it is assumed that many Masterton people will welcome the opportunity of hearing her.
