SOLDIERS’ HOSTEL
ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. UTILITY OF CLUB GREATER THAN EVER. The twenty-sdeond annual meeting of the Wairarapa Soldiers’ Hostel was held last night. Mr P. G. Ramsay presided over a meeting of about 30 members. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, pointed out that the utility of the club owing to the present war, would be greater as time went on, and that members must keep the club going strongly for the boys who, upon their return, would form the new generation of returned soldiers. Mr C. Robertson seconded the motion to adopt the report, which was carried. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr P. G. Ramsay; vice-pre-sident, Mr V. Heath; treasurer, Mr F. J. Traynor; committee, Messrs C. Devenport, A. Dickason, S. D. Munn, A. J. Parsons, A. J. Towns, F. Dwyer, F. Evans, F. Pool and M. A. Rawlins. Mr J. Curtin’s winning team in the Whatman teams competition was presented with its cups. The team consisted of Messrs J. Curtin, S. D. Munn, D. McLeod and T. Cripps. The president congratulated Mr T. Cripps, the oldest playing member of the club, upon his success. The following motion was carried: “That a sub-committee of the elected committee be set up to keep in touch with active members regularly using the club with a view to obtaining donations from them and that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that subscriptions of hon. members be watched with a view to suspension of members who are flouting the club rules.” The secretary was instructed to vey to the custodian, Mr W. O. Watt, ‘ and his wife, members’ appreciation of services rendered. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the outgoing committee and to the chairman.
