PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Una Thompson, Dannevirke, is staying with Mrs Carter, Kohunui. Elders Biesinger and Baumgartner, president and first counsellor, respectively, of the Mutual Improvement Association for New Zealand, are visiting the district and will attend the Green and Gold Ball next week. Elder Maw has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Hospital for treatment. Miss Cock is visiting relatives in Auckland. Mrs G. Jones is the guest of Miss N. McDougall. Mr and Mrs Bird are visiting Wellington. Mr and Mrs Simeon and Mrs Cowan have left for Feilding. Mr E. Taurau has returned from a visit to Hastwells.

A quiet wedding was solemnised at Masterton recently, when Queenie, second daughter of the laote Mr Toko Te Maari and Mrs Te Maari was married to Mr H. Matakatea, of Levin. Mr R. McDonald, who has been visiting Wellington, has returned home. Mr A. Spicer, Otunuku, is visiting Wellington. Mrs Staveley, Palliser Bay, is an inmate of the Greytown Hospital.

GOLF MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP, At the weekend, W. Stewart met and defeated J. Riwai in the semi-final of the senior championship of the local Golf Club. Stewart will now meet M. Hume in the final and a really good game should result. Clothes Drive. A clothes drive for refugees was made in the district recently and proved very successful. Alleged Breach of Act. As a' result of a visit by the police to a local function held recently several persons will appear before the court charged with possessing and consuming liquor within the precincts of a dance hall. > Gold and Green Ball. The annual Gold and Green Ball of the Mutual Improvement Association of Kohunui, will be held in the Memorial Hall, Pirinoa, on August 7, 1940. The net proceeds this year will be donated to the Patriotic Fund. The ball is to be conducted on the same lines as in former years and a successful and enjoyable function is assured. A sit: down supper is being prepared under the supervision of Mrs Una Thompson, and promises to be one of the best ever served. The ladies of the district are co-operating with the preparations for the supper. The crowning of the queen, one of the main features of the ball, will also be an outstanding attraction. A demonstration of the tango “Senorita Mia,” will be given by members of the M.I.A. This dance is very pretty and can be used for ballroom dancing.
