LARGE SHIP SUNK

DURING EVACUATION FROM FRANCE BOMBED BY NAZI AIRCRAFT. NUMBER OF SURVIVORS UNCERTAIN. The sinking by air attack of a 16,000 ton liner during the evacuation from France is now announced, Daventry reports. The liner had just embarked 5300 people when it was attacked by German aircraft. A salvo of bombs hit the ship, which capsized. About 2500 survivors are known to have been picked up, but possibly the actual number is higher, as it was extremely difficult to ascertain how many were saved. ___
