PADDY’S MARKET
IN AID OF LOCAL RED CROSS FUNDS. Arrangements for the “Paddy’s Market” on Friday, August 2. in aid of the local Red Cross funds are receiving comprehensive treatment by the enthusiastic committee. “The Pig in the Window,” Perry Street, should be the Mecca for all desirous of helping this worthy effort during the next week. There are two cake competitions, one for a lib fruit cake and the other for a Madeira cake. The prizes in each case are “Permanent Waves” donated by Miss E. Harding and Mr D. Catt. All cakes entered will be considered as donations to the market and entries must be at the Municipal Hall by 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, August 1. Although there are already many valuable gifts for the “Surprise Packet” drive being conducted by the Savage Club, many more are needed and intending donors should hand them in to the depot early next week to enable packing and wrapping to be done. Among many offers of goods for sale at the market on August 2, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., is one of 20 sheep for the meat stall. Nothing that can be sold will be refused at the depot. In addition to the stalls, many side shows are being arranged and valuable prizes for these are pouring into the office. The committee is sparing no effort to ensure that every taste and every purse may find something to suit and the public is asked to give this worthy cause support to the utmost.
