RED CROSS APPEAL I COLLECTIONS IN DISTRICT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the executive committee recently formed to supervise mate ters in connection with the local Red h Cross Appeal was held in the Akitio d County Council Chambers on Monday, the following being present : Messrs W. E. Davies (chairman), A. M. Theed, S. W. Eunson, A. P. Campbell and .- Mrs F. H. Mayman. ), The treasurer, Mr S. W. Eunson, i- reported that the net proceeds of the .- Paddys Market held 0n,.. July 12, amounted to £l5O 14s Id. ' The proceeds of a street stall on June 8 'amounted to £79 14s 4d, which includb ed several cash donations. A. function e held at the residence of Mr and Mrs •t F. Armstrong at Akitio resulted in the sum of £143 13s being raised, and a ' canvass of the district for donations to the fund produced the sum of £2lO 4s 6d. The aggregate sum thus collected from all sources is £584 5s lid. Donations promised and not yet collected amounted to approximately £2O and in addition to the foregoing. The matter of the non-publication by the Provincial Council of the amounts -collected in the Akitio County was discussed. It was decided that the Provincial Treasurer be asked to give publicity to this and that a ree port be published in the newspapers - circulating in this district. The trea- - surer stated that the amounts collecte ed locally had been forwarded to the Central Fund, but had been inadvertently published as having been collected by the Pahiatua District Committee, The Provincial Treasurer is to be advised of this and a correction made. •It was resolved that a letter of thanks be forwarded to district branches of the Women’s Institute who - assisted in connection with the recent - Paddy’s Market. A list of those donors who contribut- - ed to the fund as a result of the canl, vass of the district may be inspected I- at the County Council Chambers. In t this connection, it was stated at the - meeting that a considerable sum had 1 also been contributed by residents of • the Akitio County direct to the Cen- - tral Fund and to funds of neighbouring ■ towns before the local appeal was commenced. The commiottee wishes to thank all those who assisted in connection with the appeal, which resulted in such an excellent response, in view of the fact that the local appeal was not commenced until one month before the official closing date.
