CLOTHES DRIVE

SORTING OF GARMENTS UNDER WAY. BIG TASK FOR GUILD MEMBERS. The big task of sorting the thousands of garments received in the clothes I drive conducted in Masterton last SatI urday was started yesterday afternoon I by members of the Masterton branch of the Lady Galway Guild at the Ladies’ Rest Room. On the whole, the clothes so far examined have been found to be in good order. Included were some new garments. A note in one parcel enclosed by a woman whose son is at the front, said the clothes she had sent had been washed and aired and had been worn by people in good health. Guild members will continue the work of sorting the clothes this afternoon and the garments in good order will be set aside for sending away. Others that need attention will be dealt with later. The refugee group of the Red Cross Society has donated to the guild all clothes it had made and in connection with this, the Wairarapa Steam. Laundry has washed and cleaned clothes included in this consignment to the value of £2, a service which has been given as a donation to the guild. RED CROSS SOCIETY. The Country Districts’ Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society yesterday despatched five cases of clothes, etc., to the Lady Galway Guild. Red Cross Society and the City Mission, Wellington.
