PATRIOTIC EFFORT BY NUMBER OF SCHOOL CHILDREN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The children of the fourth and fifth standards held a sale in Clifford Square yesterday afternoon. The sale was ably organised by Miss Mahoocl. with Miss Muriel Saunders as an energetic secretary. There were various articles, such as bags of cones, wood, vegetables, cakes, sweets and flowers, for sale and altogether the sum of £8 5s 3d was realised and was handed to Miss Card as chairwoman for the subbranch of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild. The children's effort is much appreciated as the local branch is in need of funds. Women’s Division. The monthly meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers Union was held cn Thursday afternoon in the Pahautea Hall. Mrs Ross presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Sadler and Miss Corlet. Three visitors, Misses McKay and Dymcs and Mrs Wilkin, were accorded a welcome. Clothes made for refugees were exhibited before being sent into the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild. The competitions resulted as follows: —Cheese scones, Mrs Connell 1, best bloom, Mrs Corlet 2. Mrs Rogers 2. An interesting competition was arranged by the hostesses, Mesdames Ness and Welch, and was won by Mrs Corlet. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs D. C. Collins made arrangements with those present for the Kahautara-Pa-hautea ladies conducting the dance for soldiers to be held shortly. Personal Items. Mrs Douglas Stewart, Levin, is visiting Mrs Lyford. Tauherenikau. Miss Dawn Askew, Wellington, who has been the guest of Mrs Lyford, has returned home.
