COURSING

WHITE LIE WINS CHALLENGE BANNER WAIRARAPA v HAWKE’S BAY. , MATCH AT HASTINGS. On Saturday a challenge contest, for open dogs between Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa was decided at the Longlands enclosure, Hastings, in fine, sunny weather, before a good attendance of spectators. The Wairarapa Coursing Club succeeded in winning the match for a handsome banner donated by the Hawke's Bay Club. The banner is now on view in Mr J. Bradbury's window. Good, fast coursing was seen during the day, the hares proving remarkably fast and clever. The outstanding even, was the final, when White Lie outpaced The Clipper by four lengths to win the match for Masterton. In the evening the visitors were hospitably entertained at a social and dance, at which the banner was handed over to the Wairarapa Club by Mr H. Kay. Mr J. Bradbury, president of the Wairarapa Club, acknowledged receipt of the banner on behalf of the club. He was also asked to accept the St Lpger Ribbon on behalf of Archer Bros, whose dog, Bit-o’-Blue. had such a convincing win at the Centennial Cup meeting last month.
