EXTRA PRODUCTION

PROGRESS IN WAIRARAPA GOOD RESPONSE REPORTED THROUGHOUT AREA. INDICATIONS OF INCREASED EFFORT. Excellent progress in the effort for increased farm production was reported at a meeting of the Wairarapa Production Council, representative of all parts of the district, held in Masterton this morning. The chairman. Mr Hugh Morrison, presided over a good attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. J. Thomas. Carterton, whe is now in camp. The Tinui delegate, Mr Scott Raleigh reported that 280 additional acres of root crops would be sown, and two oi three hundred extra acres of lane would be cultivated. “There has never been a bigger meeting at Alfredton,” stated Mr' R. Keb bell in reporting good progress in his district. Extra production would be as follow: —370 acres of root crops, 121 acres of hay. 1.500 acres to be topdressed. 157 cows. 37 pigs, and 36 acres of grain crops. Besides, 540 acres of scrub and up to 2,000 acres, as finance permitted, would be ploughed. Messrs C. T. Richardson and G. Hansen reported on the progress made in the Eketahuna district. Altogether 121: eld cans had been collected in a districcanvass and these would provide extra cans for the change-over from butter to cheese production. Mr J. M. James reported on the Wangaehu area, pointing out that ii was too hilly to carry grain crops, bu' about 100 extra acres of root crops would be grown. Mr James Andrew, Tinui. stated tha’ in his area, which included Castlepoint there would be 200 extra acres of rape 100 acres of turnips. 150 acres of oa‘ crops and 4.000 store lambs would be fattened. “An extra 1,2924 acres will come under production this year,” stated Mr W. G. K. Wiggins, Greytown, in submitting his area report. This included 46f acres of barley, 154 acres of oats, 3C acres of peas. 27 acres of mangolds, 11 extra acres of hay, 147 acres of swedeand turnips, and 315 acres of sundry crops. Mr R. H. Williams and Mr J. M. James reported on the good progress being made in the Masterton area in the sowing of wheat, oats, barley, rape, turnips, seeds, etc. Messrs A. B. Martin and Guy Gillies stated that in Martinborough and Pirinoa a considerably greater was under production. Mr R. E. Gordon Lee stated that the Te Ore Ore area was already heavily cropped, but every effort for extra production would be made.
