COUNTY AFFAIRS
MEETING OF FEATHERSTON COUNCIL ROAD AND BRIDGE SUBSIDIES. REDUCED TO MINIMUM. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held at Martinborough this morning. There were present, Mr A. B. Martin (chairman), and Councillors R. Smith, D. Cameron. G. Gillies. R. W. Matthews and Q. Donald. Apologies f.or absence were received from Councillors J. C. Bidwill and J. A. McLeod. Receipts since last meeting totalled £1046 and accounts passed amounted to £3098 6s. An application received from Mr A. C. Caseley for permission to carry cream on closed roads in his area was granted, subject to a speed of 25 miles per hour being observed. Mr H. B. McMaster wrote notifying that the clearing of gorse on Miss Hanlon's frontage had been started, and would be completed as soon as possible. Mr R. E. Wall. Haurangi. wrote complaining that one of the gates on the Haurangi Road had been dragged off and not been replaced. The matter was held over. The New Zealand County Council Industrial Union of Employers notified that the annual meeting would be held in Wellington on July 19. The chairman was appointed to represent the council. Mrs E. Rowe, Underhill Road. Featherston. wrote stating that the bridge on that road had broken down and asked council to deal with the matter. The overseer was asked to attend tc the bridge. The Local Government Loans Board notified that money for subsidising roads and bridges had been restricted to a minimum, and it was unlikely that any money would be available for roads in Featherston’ County.
