MAURICEVILLE

DAIRY COMPANY SATISFACTORY SEASON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The season of the Mauriceville Cooperative Dairy Company. Ltd., jus!, ended has been a very satisfactory one, taking all the prevailing circumstances into consideration. The southern portion of the company's district experienced a very dry spell which seriously affected the output, but on the other hand the northern territory had good climatic conditions, and more than made up the shortage. The Mauriceville output of 975 tons showed an increase of 30 tons on last season. The total cost, manufacturing and charges to f.0.b.. at 2.436 d per ,1b butterfat, shows a slight decrease as compared with last year. The surplus available for distribution will enable a further payment of 2 1 -8d per lb butterfat, making the total payment for finest butterfat 16 l-8d per lb. an increase of more than l-8d on last year. This payment, amounting to £15,821, will be made about the 22nd inst. INCREASED PRODUCTION A SOW’S GREAT RECORD. In connection with the call for an increased production of bacon it is interesting to note the record of a pedigree large white sow, Stanton Bacon

Lass, owned by Mr H. C. Mortensen, of "Bakkclca." Mauriceville West. In her maiden litter she farrowed 11 pigs, all of which were reared. Of her second litter of 18 pigs, 12 were reared by her and 2 hand-reared. Of her third litter of 17, 12 were reared by her and 2 hand-reared. Of her fourth litter of 18, 16 are still living. Her first litter was farrowed on Febuary 25. 193!) and her fourth litter on July 10. 1940. It ?s also interesting to note that a sow kept from the first litter, recently gave birth to 12 pigs, of which 11 were reared.
