DOMINION SHEEP
INTERIM RETURN. A SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ! WELLINGTON, This Day. The interim return of sheep in the Dominion on April 30. 1940. was announced in last night's Gazette. The figures are:— Auckland: Final return last year, ' 3,74(1,708; interim return this year. | 3,770,708; increase, 23,940. Gisborne-Hawke’s Bay: 7,002,579 and 6,930,181; decrease, 72,398. Wellington-West Coast: 6,663.617 and 6.372.032; decrease, 291,585. North Island totals: 17,412,964 and 17,072.921; decrease. 340,043. Marlborough - Nelson - Westland: 1,548,923 and 1,484,643; decrease, 64,280. Canterbury-Kaikoura: 5,967,075 and 5,530,027; decrease, 437.048. Otago: 6,968,129 and 6.963,259; decrease, 4,870. South Island totals: 14,484,127 and 13,977,929; decrease, 506,198. Dominion totals: 31,897,091 and 31,050,850; decrease, 846,241. The number of sheep in the Dominion and the export of mutton and lamb for 1940, with last year’s figures in parentheses, are:--Sheep: 3.1,050,850 interim return, (31,897,091). Mutton carcases exported: 3,058,184 (2.150.382)./ Legs and pieces exported: 459 cwt. (376 cwt. Lamb carcases exported: 10,378,277 (9,281,474).
