A. & P. BALL

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS GATHERING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT. PRESENTATION OF DEBUTANTES

Huge red, white and blue lampshades cast a warm hue on the brilliant scene in the Municipal Hall last night when the Masterton A. & P. Association held irs annual ball, in aid of local patriotic funds. A large Union Jack worked in streamers formed the . centre piece of the decorations, with masses of bamboo, flags and bunting arranged effectively around the hall. The stage, which was set out as a lounge was decorated with bowls of wattle, spring bulbs and bamboo, and trailing palms, with a plaque of Britannia dominating the background. The hall was throng-I ed with guests from all parts of the Wairarapa. Bowls of iris, spring bulbs, Iceland poppies and native birch were artistically arranged to create a charming effect for the tables in the supper room, the patriotic note struck in the main decorations being continued in the strings of bunting strung across the ceiling. Included in the official party were Mrs R. E. Gordon Lee, wife of the president of the association, wearing red and silver lame; the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs T. Jordan, who were present as the guests of the association. Mrs Jordan wearing a charming gown of midnight blue and- black; Mesdames T. A. Brown (white), and Laird Meredith (black and silver). A bright programme was admirably handled by the M’s.C., Messrs P. F. Fagan, J. M. James, J. E. Broad and L. Connolly to music supplied by Tom Udy’s Orchestra and Pool's Blue River Dance Band.
