MAURICEVILLE
0 COUNTY COUNCIL BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held in Masterton yesterday, the chairman. Mr E. W. Cheetham, presiding. There were also present Councillors A. Forsberg, D. Bennett, A. Gray, D. Welch and G. H. Macdonald. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £1260 15s 6d. Accounts for £583 19s 4d were passed. The county clerk, Mr A. W. G. Hollings reported that one bidding permit for an estimated value of £49 had been issued during the month. The chairman reported that he had granted the use of the County office to the local Red Cross Society for meetings, etc., on Thursdays or as required. His action was confirmed. "That this council be formed into a committee to deal with ail local matters of emergency and arrange for the co-operation of the Red Cross Society, local carriers, the Postmaster and any other local residents,” was a resolution passed concerning the national emergency precautions scheme in the event of a disaster. It was also decided to co-operate with the Masterton Borough and County Councils. In reply to information sought by the secretary of Zone B, Wellington Provincial Patriotic district, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, the clerk was instructed to advise that a patriotic committee had been set up. Mr Cheetham being chairman, and Mr Nicholaison, secretary.. It was decided ot distribute forms ) throughout the district in the matter of taking in evacuated British children. Regarding increased production it was decided that the council make available its outside staff for seasonal or extra farm work, when required. The Main Highways Board wrote re-1 questing information concerning the I proposed renewal of bridges during j the next three years for the purpose I of conserving expenditure in the account concerned. The chairman stated that he had conferred with the engineers and the information required had been supplied.
The traffic inspector submitted a satisfactory report on traffic inspection in the district. He staled that he had paid particular attention to dance hall 1; and had found no signs of liquor. The overseer reported satisfactory work having been carried out during the past month and prospective work was attended to.
