MASTERTON SAVAGE CLUB

KORERO ON SATURDAY EVENING. The fifth korero of the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday night was well up to standard. Beginning with the National Anthem and the Opening Ode, the first half, after Big Chief V. S. Wilton had installed Past Chief Jenk„ins in the chair, continued with two numbers by the orchestra under Savage C. V/. Kerry, followed by pleasingly rendered vocal numbers by Savage O. Hemmingsen and recitations by Savage G. R. Sykes. An amusing play, “Box and Cox,” was presented to an appreciative audience by Savages KentJohnston, Flemming and Hancock. Following on the chairman’s remarks, the usual raffle and auction for patriotic purposes set new standards by netting, £9. Deputy-Chief Price then introduced the visitors, Messrs G. T. O’Hara Smith, E. Sanson, R. G. Kember, I. G. Sykes, and J. Hercock, of Masterton, G. Flaws, Wellington, and Sergeant J. L. Williams, Tauherenikau. During Buttery Hatch the toast of the visitors, by Savage O. Hemmingsen, was answered by Mr O’Hara Smith. Big Chief V. S. Wilton also extended the club’s best wishes to Savage R. Glen who leaves for overseas service next week. The second half opened with further numbers from the orchestra, followed by a talk on “Child Welfare” by Mr Hercock. Two much-appreciated solos by Sergeant D. Couper and “The King” brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
