Duffield, reported inter alia, as follows concerning ■ county roads: West Riding—South No. 2 road: The lower half was heavily graded and at date some 260 c. yds of crushed metal have been run out. Although funds do not permit of metalling the road

throughout, it is hoped during this crushing season to deal with the worst sections. Repairs were carried out to a small bridge. Morgan’s Road: This was very weak, was heavily graded, and for the .greater part of its length given a coat of crushed metal. Mangaraupui Road: The section from the factory to the Atea junction was cleaned of' side growth, heavily scarified and reshaped. The road over this section is weak and will receive crushed metal shortly. Hare's and Parkville Central roads were patched during the period. East Riding: The old coach road was heavily graded throughout to improve its drainage. The filling over the culvert in the big bend partially subsided on one side. This was made good, as was a small washout nearby. The filling referred to has apparently given trouble for some years past. It would be a very expensive proposition to replace the culvert and it would appear that the amount of use the road gets would not justify this. Alfrcdton Riding: Waihoki.—The road was heavily graded throughout and the water-tables were ploughed out over the whole length of some five miles. When it settles clown the road should keep in fair order for some time. On Wright’s Road a 3ft diameter pipe culvert was washed out during the month. The culvert was relaid in a new position and some filling placed to make good the washout. Reid’s Road was also heavily graded, the edges cut back and new water-tables cut throughout. On Saunders Road willows were planted in several places to protect the road. RUGBY FOOTBALL SATURDAY’S RESULTS. The following are the results of Rugby matches played under the juris-
