RED CROSS WORK
MASTERTON SUB-CENTRE ACTIVITIES. PREPARATIONS FOR EMERGENCY. The Masterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross states that after Saturday, July 13, parcels of clothes for refugees can be left at a depot to be arranged by the Lady Galway Guild. Clothes for distressed British civilians, and garments suitable for remaking for' this purpose are to be left at the Red Cross room in Park Street. These garments will be handled by the Red Cross and sent to Red Cross headquarters in London for distribution. The Red Cross Sewing Group will work on clothes for distressed British civilians and is also anxious to build up a reserve supply of garments to meet any emergency that may arise in New Zealand. As this latter project is a most important work, it is felt it should be undertaken immediately. Up to the present time the Red Cross Sewing Group has had an all-time work dealing with refugees’ clothing but as this work is being undertaken by the Lady Galway Guild, the Red Cross Sewing Group will now be free to concentrate on the requirements of British civilians and the building up of emergency supplies. The Masterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross has offered to co-operate with the Lady Galway Guild and to assist, where possible. The Red Cross Sewing Group is giving its services on the last sewing day of each month to the work of the Lady Galway Guild, as soon as the latter is functioning.
