WOMEN’S DIVISION
TIRAUMEA BRANCH. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was an excellent attendance at the July meeting . of the Tiraumea branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union. A welcome was extended to Mrs D. Cox who is at present visiting the district, and who was a former member of the branch. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Duncan, Mrs A. J. Jewitt and Miss Jean Hart. The senior competition was for the best garment for refugees, made from something old. Mrs R. Houlbrooke was first and Mrs C. Wright second. The competition for the prettiest coat hanger (juniors) was won by Miss Edna Wallis and Miss Dorothy Hart was second. Honours went to Mrs E. Jewitt. Mrs E. Lindergreen and Mrs R. Houlbrooke in the best bloom competition, the three entries being placed first equal. Miss E. Wallis was next. It was reported that during June the members had attended various sewing bees and have been doing splendid work making clothes for the war refugees, with the result that four cases of clothes have been packed to be sent to Masterton for tran mission overseas. The Tiraumea members of the branch wish to express their thanks to all those who, although not members, have given generous assistance in this effort.
