IRISH CONCERT EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENT. (“Times-Age" Special.) The Irish concert, organised by the Fire Brigade Carnival Committee, drew a large attendance at the Town Hall last night. The entertainment provided was of a very high standard and the audience warmly appreciated the efforts of all the contributors to the programme. Members of the Pahiatua Patriotic Concert Party provided the major portion of the programme, every item receiving well-merited encores. Another visitor, Mrs K. Palmer, of Wellington, was heard to great advantage, in two numbers. The humour was provided by Mr W. B. Gray, of Pahiatua, whose ventriloquial item and interlude "Performing Fleas,” were highly amusing. The well known magician, Professor Thornburrow, of Hastings, proved a past master in performing mysterious tricks, and his turn was a most popular one. During a break in the programme, Mr D. D. Ryan, on behalf of the Fire Brigade committee, thanked the artists for their help in making the concert the success it was. He asked the audience to carry a vote of thanks by acclamation, to them and this was warmly acceded to. The accompanists for the concert were Mrs Jefferies.. Miss M. Smith and Mr A. Pringle (Pahiatua). Superintendent H. Rogers announced the various items. The following was the programme:— Overture by the orchestra; song. "Rose of Tralee.” Ml’ Frank Robinson; guitar solo, Mr N. Wilton; elocution, Miss E. Waterreus: song, “Paradise for Two,” Mrs K. Palmer; song, "Danny Boy,” Miss C. McAlister; ventriloquial act, Mr W. B. Gray and “Billy;” song. "When Irish Eyes are Smiling,” Mr Hutchinson; saxophone solo, Mr A. Rowden; orchestra, selection. “There’ll Always Be An England;” magic act, Professor Thornburrow; violin solo, Mr P. Bouzaid; elocutionary item, Miss L. Richards; song. “Kerry Dance,” Miss Junkers; humorous interlude, "Performing Fleas,” Mr W. B. Gray; song, "In an Old Fashioned Town,” Mr W. Greaves; song, “Killarney,” Mr Max Smith; guitar solo, Mr N. Wilton. The entertainment Concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. After the concert the performers were entertained at supper by the Fire Brigade ladies' committee. Personal Items. Mr C. Oliver. Parkville, is confined to his room with a severe attack of influenza. Mrs H. M. Daniell Sent, Vile Street, is visiting Waipukurau. Mr W. Green, who has been in the employ of the Eketahuna Borough Council for the past thirty-four years, retired from the council’s employ on Saturday. It is understood that Mr Green will act in an advisory capacity in regard to the town’s water supply. Borough Foreman. A special meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council was held last night to consider the applications for the position of Borough Foreman. Finality was not reached at the meeting and consideration was deferred until the monthly meeting of the council next Tuesday. Seven applications were received for the position.
