TE WHARAU
GOLF MATCH WAINUI-O-RU TEAM BEATEN. (“Times-Age" Special.) The annual inter-club match between the Te Wharau and Wainui-o-ru clubs was played over the weekend on the Wainui-o-ru links, and although the weather was not altogether perfect, quite an enjoyable time resulted. In a close game, the local team won by one game. In the ladies’ fourball Te Wharau won 2 games, lost one, and one game was all square. In the men’s fourball, Te Wharau won only one game, lost three games, while two games were halved. In the ladies’ singles, Te Wharau won three games and Wainui-o-ru won four games. One game was halved. In the men’s singles Te Wharau won five games and lost four and two games were all square. The following are the results, the Wainui-o-ru players being mentioned first in each instance: — Ladies’ fourball: Mrs Broad and Mrs Wyeth all square with Miss Schofield and Mrs Schofield; Mrs Elliott and Mrs Wilson lost to Miss Taylor and Mrs Foreman; Mrs Cooper and Miss Tinkham beat Miss Bannister and Mrs Read; Miss Chalmers and Miss Robertson lost to Mrs A. McGregor and Mrs J. Bannister. Ladies’ singles: Mrs Broad defeated Miss Schofield; Mrs Wyeth beat Mrs Schofield; Mrs Elliott beat Miss Taylor; Mrs Wilson lost to Mrs Foreman; Mrs Cooper beat Miss Bannister; Miss Tinkham and Mrs Read all square; Miss Chalmers lost to Mrs McGregor; and Miss Robertson lost 1o Mrs Bannister. Men’s fourball: A. Wyeth and A. Wardell all square with R. Weston and M. Paku; W. Gordon and A. Tinkham halved with W. Kummer and R. Bannister; F. Burling and H. Cooper lost to I. McGregor and N. Foreman; J. Broad and T. Smart beat S. Gray and M. Turvey; H. Summers and M. Berrill beat F. McKinstry and A. McGregor; P. K. Gordon beat J. Laing. Men’s singles: A. Wyeth beat R. Weston; A. Wardell halved with IVI. Paku; W. Gordon lost to W. Kummer; A. Tinkham lost to R. Bannister; F. Burling beat I. McGregor; H. Cooper beat N. Foreman; J. Broad lost to S. Gray; T. Smart and M. Turvey halved: H. Summers lost to F. McKinstry; M. Berrill beat A. McGregor; and P. K. Gordon lost to J. Laing. Red Cross Appeal. Considerable interest is being taken in the open golf day which is being organised by the combined Te Wharau and Tyneside Golf clubs, and scheduled to take place on the Tyneside links on July 7. commencing at 10 a.m. It has been decided to make a charge of three shillings for the day, which will cover everything, including morning and afternoon tea. There will be medal and bogey play, combined with a stableford, and trophies have been donated for competition. The links arc in splendid order and as all proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Fund, the object is bound to make a strong appeal to all, and given a (inc day the success of the function is practically assured.
