AT DANUBE ENTRANCE SOME RIOTING AND PILLAGING REPORTED. GERMAN-OWNED GOODS SEIZED BY SOVIET. LONDON, June 30. Reuter’s correspondent at Buchaest reports that the Rumanian mobilisation is still proceeding, and adds that confidence is being revived concerning the attitude of Hungary, and Bulgaria, who have apparently postponed their revisionist ambitions. Bucharest newspapers report that the navy' has mined Constanta and Sulina. Vessels going to Constanta or heading up the Danube must announce their arrival by radio and wait several miles out for a pilot to conduct them through the minefields. German-owned goods in Bessarabia are reported to have been seized by the Russians. A Soviet committee at Chilia seized a large quantity of wheat owned by a German company. The Balkans correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that the Russian penetration beyond the agreed line was due to the inability of a Russian colonel to read a map showing the new frontier. Rioting and pillaging are reported to have occurred in various Bessarabian towns. Communists and Jews at Cernauti attacked Rumanian officials. A mob at Kishinev shot a police inspector. .Refugees from Bessarabia and Bukovina are crowding the roads and railways.
According to the same correspondent, the pro-German newspaper “Curentul” says that the Russians have imprisoned Government officials and leading citizens in Bessarabian towns. He adds that Dr Borneski, the German leader in Bessarabia, was informed that he would be assassinated, and he fled to Rumania. Baron Blonder, Governor of Cernauti, has been arrested and many banks have been robbed. The Bucharest correspondent of the Associated Press of Breat Britain says that several Ministers met tonight and discussed a plan to transfer the Government to the foothills of western Rumania if necessary. GERMAN ADVICE SAID TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO RUMANIA. (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) BUCHAREST, July 1. Herr Hitler is reported to have sent a message to the Crown Council, before Rumania’s acceptance of the Soviet demands, stating: “Accept anything for the lime being.” King Carol conferred with high officials today. His most recent whereabouts are not disclosed. COMMUNIST DISORDERS REPORTED AT GALATZ. 250 PERSONS REPORTED KILLED. (Received This Day. 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 1. The American Press Association’s Sofia correspondent reports that. 250 persons are said to have been killed in Communist demonstrations at Galatz. The trouble is believed to have begun when the inmates of a large internment camp escaped and started large-scale Communist demonstrations. SECURITY REGULATIONS (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) BUCHAREST, July 1. New security regulations include the closing of cafes at 11 p.m., prohibiting gatherings of over four people and internment for agitators against public order.
