SETTLER FAREWELLED GATHERING AT SCHOOL. (“Times-Age” Special.) Settlers of the Matahiwi district assembled at the school last night to farewell Mr J. Madeley. who is a member of the Third Echelon. Mr F. Clark, who made a presentation of a fountain pen and pencil and cigarette case, on behalf of those present, referred to 'Mr Madeley's long association with the district and to his popularity. He had been an efficient farmer and a good settler, said Mr Clark and he was sure he would be just as good a soldier. The evening was spent in playing cards and dancing. Mi- J. Gallaghei contributed violin solos and Mr A Beals songs. The M.C. was Mr S. Amundsen and Mr C. Jackson, with his piano-accordion, provided the dance music.
