WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

UPPER PLAIN MEETING. WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute was held at Mrs Clement’s home. Mrs W. Taplin presided over a very good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the Aspirations, the Prayer for Peace and Ode to Friendship. Mrs Ackerman, a new member, was welcomed. Members decided to hold a sewing meeting at Mrs Skeet’s home, members to bring sewing for the Red Cross hospital supplies or refugees. The wandering shilling was won by Mrs Tankersley. A most interesting demonstration was given by Mrs Jones on crochet coat-hangers. The monthly competitions were won as follow: Best bloom. Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Manuel 2. Special novelty, not costing more than 2s; Mrs Steer 1, Mrs Mannell 2, Mrs Jones 3. Cooking from recipe: Mrs Steer 1, Mrs Jones 2, Mrs Mannell 3.
