CHILD IMMIGRATION

LOCAL SCHEME. EXCELLENT SUPPORT RECEIVED. A meeting of the Child Immigration scheme was held at the home of Mrs Page, Essex Street, last night, and was presided over by Mrs Page. It was reported that forty homes had been found for English boys and girls varying in age from one year to fourteen years.

The questionnaires which had been employed as the medium between people offering homes and the committee had in most cases been completed and returned in quick time. A motion of thanks, was passed to Mrs Dodds for her activities on behalf of the scheme in connection with the Masterton branch of the Women Teachers’ Association which supported the scheme.

It was suggested that to make the committee workable it should be enlarged and two additional members are' to be added.

The question of child selection was raised and it was decided to submit the names of three New Zealanders at present living in England to the proper authorities and their advice is being sought on the matter. The subject of cottage hemes was discussed at some length, but it was thought inadvisable at the present moment to make any definite decision. As soon as further details can be obtained from the authorities, it is proposed to call a general meeting of all those interested in the scheme and it is hoped that the excellent start which has been made in such a small district will be continued.

The questionnaire for those interested may be obtained at Mr Page's shop in Queen Street.
