WEDDING
NEWMAN—DENBEE. A PRETTY SETTING. Iceland poppies and chrysanthemums formed a pretty setting for the marriage on June 3, at St Matthew's Church, Masterton. of Thelma Winifred, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs T. T. Denbee. Renall Street, Masterton. and Eric Reginald, eldest son of Mrs R. E. Newman, of Invercargill. The ceremony was performed by the Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich and Mr Miller Hope was at the organ. The bride was escorted by her father and was charmingly attired in a simply cut gown of ivory embroidered tinsel brocade. The gown had a high neckline and was gathered slightly into the pointed waistline in front and was finished at the back with a belt from the side seams, being buttoned from neckline to the waist at the back with tiny covered buttons. The sleeves, which were full at the shoulders. tapered to form points over the hands. Her only ornament was a string of pearls. The embroidered tulle veil (kindly lent by a friend), which was worn over the face as she entered the church was held in place by a small bow and a spray of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of chrysanthemums to tone. The bridesmaid. Miss K. Clapshaw (Dannevirke) and Mrs M. Dassler, sister of the bride, who was matron-of-honour, were gowned alike in ivory stiffened net over ivory satin. The skirts were full and finished at the waist with sashes of clover colour. They wore matching veils on their heads and topnots of clover flowers, and carried bouquets to tone. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Ern Newman (brother of the bridegroom) and Mr George Jones (Christchurch) was groomsman. Mr R. O'Callaghan was usher at the church.
As the bridal party left the church little Ann Dassler (niece) presented the bride with a satin horseshoe. Mr William C. Mann gave a fine rendering of Schubert's Serenade. Mr and Mrs Denbee entertained the guests later at the Empire Hotel, Mrs Denbee wearing a model frock in the new prune shade, wi,th brown accessories, and carried a bouquet to tone. Mrs Newman wore a lime frock and hat, her bouquet being of autumn tints. The bride travelled in a model frock in sunset gold, with a musquash coat and accessories of black coffee colour. Mr and Mrs E. R. Newman will take up their residence in Wellington.
