INDOOR BASKETBALL

LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS. 5 POPULARITY OF GAME INCREASES. The following are the results of games played by the. Indoor Basketball Association at the Y.M.C.A. last night:— Women's Division —A grade: Hugo and Shearer'6, C. Smiths 2; Stock and Station 12, Y.M.C.A. 0; W.F.C.A. 1, Woolworths 0. B Grade: Hosiery Mills 16, State Ktichenette 1; Garages 7, McKenzies 6; Grahams 5, Cathies 3. Men’s Division —Bouzaids 21, State Kitchenette 17; Vesta Batteries 22, W.F.C.A. 8; Reliance B 20, Reliance A 4. In the Ladies B grade, Garages sprang a surprise by defeating the leading team McKenzies, while Grahams drew their first blood at the expense of Cathies, in a very close encounter. In the ladies A grade, the most interesting game was between W.F.C.A. and Woolworths, a penalty goal being the only score. The defence of both teams was good and they deserve credit for their splendid exhibition. The main men’s game, Vesta v W.F.C.A., was marred to a great extent by the over-keenness of some of the players, who should by now realise that rough play does not get goals. Team captains would do well to impress this point on their members. That Indoor Basketball is becoming increasingly popular in Masterton was again demonstrated last night when the spectators gallery was packed.
