EKETAHUNA

FRIENDLY SOCIETIES ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Eketahuna Friendly Societies’ card delegates was held in the Fire Station last night. Mr S. J. O'Regan (Druids) presided. There were also present Messrs S. Daniel (Fire Brigade. R. Farrow and H. Eagle (Odd Fellows) and Mr N. Jensen (Foresters). The balance sheet, which showed a small credit balance, was adopted. After discussion it was decided that the tournament be held again this year commencing on June 13 at 8 p.m. • Mr S. J. O'Regan was elected chairman and Mr S. Daniel was re-elected secretary of the committee. A letter was read from the Masterton Friendly Societies' Council challenging the local Societies to a euchre contest on a suitable date to be arranged It was decided to obtain an opinion from members concerning the matter :on the opening card party night. The secretary was instructed to arrange the supper for the duration c( the tournament. The secretary was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his past services. The draw for the opening night is as follow: Foresters v Druids; Fire Brigade v Odd Fellows.

TABLE TENNIS WEEKLY CLUB NIGHT. Despite the stormy conditions last) night, the attendance at the weekly club night of the Eketahuna Table Tennis Club was excellent. A match was played between the Secretary’s and President's teams and this resulted in a win for the former by 9 sets (29 games) to the latter's 7 sets (19 games). The following are the details (secretary’s team mentioned first in each instance): —Singles: N. Payne 2 games beat E. Neilsen 1 game; Jagc (1) lost to Hausman (2); H. Walton (3) beat M. Hansen (0); V. Neilsen (1) lost to F. Sigvertsen 2); D. Cheeny (0) lost to E. Sigvertsen (3); Miss L. Koce (3) beat W. Fafeita (0); Miss J. Edwards (3) beat G. Fergus (0); Miss N Jaspers (2) beat Miss Z. Jaspers (1); G. Jaspers (3) beat F. Green (0); Miss E. Sigvertsen (3) beat Miss B. Koce (0); A. Knowles (1) lost to G. Fergus (2); secretary team 7 games, president’s 4 games. Doubles: Payne and Jago (1) lost to E. Nielsen and Hausman (2); Walton and V. Neilsen (0) lost to M. Hansen and F. Sigvertsen (3); Cheeny and Miss Koce (1) lost to E. Sigvertsen and Fafeita (2); Misses J. Edwards and N. Jaspers (2) beat Fergus and Miss Z. Jaspers (2); G. Jaspers and Miss Sigvertsen (3) beat F. Green and B. Koce (0). Results, Secretary's team 2 games t 0,3. Supper was served at the conclusion of the games and brought a very pleasant gathering to a close. Power to be Cut Off. Consumers in the Tararua Electric Power Board’s district are notified that as the Public Works Department intends to carry out urgent repair work to the main lines on Sunday, the power will be cut off between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3.30 p.m.
