RECRUITING RALLY
REPRESENTATIVE GATHERING IN WELLINGTON.

Leaders of Church and State, civic and social life, attended a spectacular military tattoo and recruiting rally at the Wellington Town Hall last night. Among those on the platform were the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser; the Catholic Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, Most Rev T. O’Shea; the Anglican Bishop of Wellington, the Rt Rev H. St Barbe Holland; the Mayor of Wellington, Mr Hislop; the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Sir Harry Batterbee; the Australian Trade Commissioner, Mr C. E. Critchley; the High Commissioner for Canada, Dr W. A. Riddell; and consular representatives of the Allies.
The Town Hall was packed by a large and representative crowd. Many distinguished citizens were to be seen in the gallery and body of the hall. Two bands, the combined third echelon and the Trentham Camp Band and the Port Nicholson Silver Band, played patriotic and topical tunes. The hall was decorated with British and Allied flags.
