FEATHERSTON

RED CROSS SOCIETY PATRIOTIC APPEAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Pahautea-Kahutara sub-branch of the Red Cross Society held a most successful euchre party and dance in the Kahutara Hall on Saturday night in aid of the Sick, Wounded and Distress Appeal. There was almost a record attendance. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra and extras were played by Mr Matenga. Mr Rendle acted as M.C. The winners in the euchre tournament were: Ladies, Mrs Parker 1, Mrs Himona 2. Men, Mr Burt 1, Mr L. Ruka 2. The dinner was won by Mrs Ness, the cushion by Mrs Dittner, the wine by Mr R. Cade, the chocolates by Mr W. Juno and the turkey by Mr Ashworth, being re-sold and netting about £7. Mr H. Graham auctioned a number of articles. The total proceeds amounted to £3B.

GOLF WIN FOR FEATHERSTON. The annual match between Featherston and Tui Glen played yesterday resulted in a win for Featherston by 16 games to 14 (men) and 8 games to 3 (ladies). A Stableford competition in aid of the Red Cross funds was played in the morning, the winner being G. Brown (Tui Glen). The gross takings were handed to the local branch of the Red Cross.

The following is the result of the second round of the shield competition played on Saturday: J. Davis 90-16-74; H. Neilson 99-25-74; H. Bloxam 88-13-75; K. Allen 83-7-76; H. Lovegrove 94-18-76; A. White 93-16-77. Personal Items. Mrs McElvie, Glenburn, is visiting her mother, Mrs McKay, Pahautea. Leading Aircraftsman Victor Bargh, of New Plymouth, spent the weekend with his parents at Pahautea. Mr A. C. Bellamore, Wellington, was the weekend guest of Mr and Mrs J. Juno. Miss Joan McKenzie, Wellington, was a weekend visitor to Featherston. Officers in Camp. One hundred and fifty officers and N.C.O’s. went into camp at the Tauherenikau Racecourse on Saturday and 350 more are expected today. Major George is the O.C.
