BOROUGH RATES

INCREASE NOT ANTICIPATED.

STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR.

“It is anticipated that it will be possible to maintain the rates without any increase,” observed the Mayor of Masterton, Mr T. Jordan this morning, when referring to the position of the borough finances. He added that it was the aim of the council to do so, in spite of the fact that interest and sinking fund for half a year on the recently carried waterworks loan and interest and sinking fund on the loan raised for the erection of buildings on the council’s Mangaone reserve had to be found this year as additional items of expenditure.
