FARMERS’ UNION
TIRAUMEA BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING. WAR CABINET ADVOCATED. Nearly every home was represented at the annual meeting of the Tiraumea branch of the Farmers’ Union held yesterday. This included members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union. The president, Mr Scott Raleigh, who represented the branch at the Wanganui Conference last week, gave a stirring and interesting account of the inter-provincial conference and the meeting of the R.S.A.. held in the Opera House at Wanganui. He was listened to with serious attention and a motion endorsing the action qf the inter-provincial .conference in advocating a War Cabinet was carried unanimously and the meeting declared its intention to stand behind a united war effort unreservedly. During the discussion it was agreed that a small War Cabinet compost'd of the best men irrespective of party should be appointed and that politics should be buried. The following officers were elected for the present year: President, Mr Scott Raleigh; vice-president, Mr A. C. P. Hay; secretary. Mr A. Liverton; committee. Messrs M. Robbie, L. G. Houlbrooke and H. Hanson; delegates to Wairarapa Provincial Executive, the president and vice-president. \ The meeting learned with regret that Mr Roy Fendall’s residence had been burned to the ground the previous night. He had been entertained on Saturday last on the occasion of his approaching marriage and presented with an armchair.
In the event of troop horses being required, 22 were promised by farmers in the room.
