EKETAHUNA

ELECTRIC POWER FAILS POLE STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Sunday night’s black-out over the Tararua Power Board’s district was caused by lightning striking a pole carying the 110,000 volt line on Wenham’s Road, Hukanui. The pole was cut in two and the heavily charged line was brought to the ground. In residences in the vicinity fuses were blown and switchboards damaged. In one instance all the lamps were burnt out. A Public Works Department transformer was put out of action at the Mangamaire sub-station.

FOOTBALL BUSH UNION GAMES. The following Were 'the results of the games played on Saturday by the teams in the Bush Rugby Union competitions:— Senior. —Konini beat Pahiatua, 22/3; Mangatainoka beat Hukanui, 6/3; Woodville beat Hamua, 13/3. POSITION OF TEAMS. The following are the positions of the senior teams:—

Third grade—Nireaha beat.Eketahuna, 9/8; Woodville beat Mangatainoka, 16/0; Pahiatua beat Hukanui, 13/0.

In the third grade between Nireaha and Eketahuna a member of the Nireaha team, Hugh Littler, sustained . a broken collarbone. In the first spell, Nireaha put on 6 points (2 unconverted tries) to Eketahuna’s 3 points (a penalty goal kicked by H. Steer). In the second spell, Nireaha added another 3 points to their score by means of a penalty goal. For Eketahuna H. Steer scored a try and converted it. The best of the Eketahuna forwards were the Ryan brothers and the pick of the backs were H. Steer and Morrison. The game was ably controlled by Mr W. Brown, of Mangatainoka. Personal Items. Mr George Ashworth, of Picton, has returned home after spending a few days as the guest of Mr and Mrs F. Preston, Parkville. Among the latest Eketahuna recruits for overseas service are Messrs Basil Worthington and George Preston.
